Behind the Curtain | Designing Heather
A firm favourite since it joined the collection a few years ago, Heather is a hugely versatile print that can sit quietly or demand attention. Inspired by the local landscape in Sussex, it’s feathery marks represent gently swaying fields of Heather that dust the coastal hillside. The design was originally painted using watercolours, and involved a process of slowly building up varying monochromatic tones with simple brush strokes. It may appear simple, but this gradual layering of colour provides captivating depth.
It’s quietly decorative, making it a perfect choice for upholstery. And with so many colourways to choose from, there is something to suit every room.
Heather has enjoyed a little reinvention recently, and the overwhelmingly positive response has been wonderful to see. Taking on a new lease of life as part of our embroidery collection, the Heather ground has been adorned with a scattering of charming embroidered motifs to give the design a new playful edge.
